Flying Tigers - USAAF Emblem
The legendary Flying Tigers, officially known as the First American Volunteer Group (AVG) attached to the Chinese Air Force in 1941–1942, was a fighter group commanded by Claire Lee Chennault. Under special US presidential authority, some of the best pilots from the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC) were recruited to serve in one of the three squadrons. The group would eventually destroy 296 enemy aircraft, while losing only 14 pilots in combat.
In July of 1942, the AVG was absorbed into the USAAF as the 23rd Fighter Group but retained its signature shark mouth nose art.
